He takes over the mob in the 1921 but by the time the 1955 arrives he's grown tired of his life as a gangster / filmmaker. This isn't a tale of "one last score before retirement." This isn't a mafia love letter. There is no hero here. Just an aging gangster reliving his not-so-glory days and pondering redemption, if it's at all possible.
